With the Barbers Hill Football Season ending with a bang, that means that it’s time to make room for other sports like Boys Soccer in the high school. For the past few months, the football team has been winning games and making history by going to Round 4 playoffs, but now it’s time for the soccer team to shine.
The Barbers Hill Boys Soccer Team has been on the grind since the beginning of December. Initially, the boys had to show their skills by trying out for the soccer team in the beginning of the month and getting accepted onto the team. Once accepted, they had soccer practice after school in the multipurpose facility and have been working hard by going to the weight room, running, scrimmaging, stretching, practicing their positions in the soccer game, and having to practice even when it gets tough! They show teamwork not only to impress their family, friends, students, staff, and others in the bleachers, but to also show that they work hard and have no excuses to not demonstrate discipline and dedication.

The first boys soccer game this season was against Crosby High School with The Varsity & JV playing against them at Cougar Stadium. However, they left with a tough score of a single point, losing to Crosby High School. Even though the team lost, the soccer team played hard and had a very supporting audience coming to watch from Mont Belvieu. Soon after, the team played the second game of the season and the first home game of the season! This game was between the Varsity Boys Soccer Team and the Alumni Game Soccer Team which was held at Eagle Stadium at 6pm.
The game was very successful and ended with a score of 8-1, a win for Barbers Hill and also the first win of the season.
“I think we moved the ball really well…We finished where we needed to, definitely a step up from our Crosby game this past weekend where we weren’t really shifting well. I think across the whole formation, we were shifting pretty well, back line, middles, and we were definitely finishing our balls,” Josiah Sanchez said. Shifting in soccer means to move up, back, left, and right to be able to recover in time to stop an attack on goal.

A lot of improvement was shown since the last game, based on the scores and how the game was operating: the shifting, the moving of the ball, the defense, the reflexes, being able to get the ball, and the overall amount of the teamwork shown in the game.
“There were some things we wanted to show up and fix, and I think our boys did that tonight,” Coach Moore said. “Defensively, we shaped a little better, won the ball a little bit more and were able to distribute, make some passes and attack as a unit and get some shots on target and we put them away, so it was good.”
The 2025 Boys Soccer Team is going into the right direction for this season. Their first home game was very successful and many hope that the team will continue to win these soccer matches, as well as continue to show teamwork by working hard and playing hard.
