Tuesday, March 24 2026 at 6:30, The BHHS Band performed their pre-UIL concert. This event took place at the Travis Poe Center in Baytown, where numerous bandsmen showcased their undying talent and passion for music. This show was nothing short of amazing; with an unforgettable show and wonderful music.
Three sections of the band performed; wind ensemble, concert band, and symphonic band, and each band executed three songs.
First, the concert band performed. A concert band is generally considered to be a beginning band, ideal for freshmen and sophomores. Nonetheless, this diversity made little difference in the performance tonight. Every student did wonderfully, performing some of the most beautiful and artistic songs of modern day with great precision and skill.
The symphonic band took over the auditorium. Symphonic band focuses on learning and performing pieces of both classical and contemporary music. It is a non-marching section of a band, and is typically more advanced in musical rigor than their concert ban counterparts. With songs like Quality Plus, Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song, and Rail Rifts, the ensemble produced a harmonious show for the audience to indulge in. Each individual showcased exactly what it means to be a part of the BHHS band.
The next section of the band that performed was the Wind Ensemble. Here, these students focus on nearly every instrument, with varieties of percussionists, brass, and more. Wind Ensemble usually ranks the highest amongst high school bands in difficulty and rigor, and plays pieces throughout nearly every era. They performed tonight with Blue Shades, Incantation in Dance, and Golden Bear March. Each song was mere perfection, as our BHHS band experts showed mastery in technique, musicality, and more.
Though they exhibited nothing less than excellence, multiple performers were interviewed for the show tonight; each expressed a variety of opinions. One student specifically noted, “I was really worried about how I would do because it’s a lot of stress going on stage and performing, and I feel like it showed.” On the other side of the spectrum, some believe that the show was nothing short of greatness. One student stated, “This was one of the best performances I’ve personally ever performed”
Here at Barbers Hill, we have a very diverse student body- and with that comes musicians of all skill levels. While each performer had different opinions on how they did, each person– from student, to band director, to audience member, have done spectacularly, making every moment from tonight’s concert one of the most memorable.
In all, each of the three sections were absolutely amazing in their own way. This evening’s show was truly unforgettable. Our Barbers Hill Soaring Eagle Band is sure to excel at their upcoming UIL competitions this April.
